RES gains approval for Border Winds
Electric utility regulators in North Dakota gave their final approval for RES Americas’ 150MW Border Winds project to be located near the state’s northern border with Canada.
The project will utilize 75 Vestas 2MW wind turbines that the vendor will manufacture at its Colorado plants.
A Public Service Commission official tells Recharge that he expects construction of the project to begin soon given the state’s harsh winter. RES is the engineering, procurement and construction contractor as well.
Once in commercial operation, RES will transfer project ownership to Northern States Power, a subsidiary of Minneapolis-based Xcel Energy,
RES last month announced it had obtained project construction financing arranged by several European banks.
