Onshore plants of 50MW or larger in England and Wales will have to seek planning consent at local level rather than get central government approval, as is the case now.
The measure was announced in the Queen’s Speech – the ceremonial opening of the UK Parliament – confirming a commitment in the manifesto of the newly-elected Conservative government.
The manifesto also pledged to “end new subsidies” for onshore wind farms.
