The German specialist has signed a deal with Duke Energy Renewables (DER) and Samsung SDI to retrofit the Notrees storage plant - the largest integrated with a North American wind park, according to Younicos.
In 2013, DER announced a $22m investment with manufacturer Xtreme Power to build the energy-storage system with lead acid technology, which has a much shorter operating life than lithium-ion systems.
