Siemens says the contract, for its SWT 2.3-93 turbines, is in the “mid-range double-digit millions [of euros]”.

The 48.3-megawatt (MW) Baltic 1 will be located 16km off the coast of Germany’s northeast Zingst peninsula. Maritime engineering work is set to commence early next year, with a finish date by the end of 2010.

“As one of the very first commercial projects in German waters, [Baltic 1] is of special significance for the offshore sector in Germany in general – and for EnBW in particular,” says Hans-Josef Zimmer, the company's chief technical officer.
