Green light for $2.4bn Gwynt y Môr wind farm off Welsh coast

The Gwynt y Môr wind farm will feature 160 turbines in Liverpool Bay, around 18 kilometres off north Wales.

Work will start towards the end of 2011, with the facility scheduled for completion in 2014.

The offshore project involves three partners: RWE Innogy, Stadtwerke München (SWM) and Siemens. Total investment in the wind farm will be more than €2bn ($2.4bn).

RWE Innogy will hold a 60% stake in the joint venture, with Stadtwerke München owning 30% and Siemens 10%.
