Dong launches 172MW Gunfleet Sands offshore wind project

Set 7km off the Essex coast in the Thames Estuary, Gunfleet pushes the UK past the landmark 1-gigawatt milestone of installed offshore wind capacity.

Dong chief executive Anders Eldrup claims the entire project cost about DKr4bn ($661.2m), or $3.84m per megawatt.

Gunfleet was originally intended to top out at 108MW, with Dong offering an initial cost estimate of £200m – equivalent to $2.74m
