The deal, the largest in the port’s 400-year-old history, gives a major bump to Belfast’s ambition to become a centre for the mass of offshore renewables work heading to the Irish Sea in the coming years. Dong first signaled its interest in Belfast in February.

Belfast Harbour, which houses Harland & Wolff (H&W) among other businesses, will foot the bill for the infrastructural upgrade, with Dong signed on to lease the space for the pre-assembly of turbines and foundations at its 389MW West of Duddon Sands project.
