The substations, which were built on three levels and weight more than 1,260 tonnes apiece, were designed, manufactured and installed by Future Energy, a joint venture between Fabricom, Lemants and Geosea.

The electrical systems at the offshore substations, as well as the onshore substation that has been built in North Kent, were supplied by Siemens Transmission.

The offshore substations will step up the electricity generated by the wind turbines from 33,000 volts to 150,000 volts, before exporting it via four 50km export cables to a new onshore substation at Cleve Hill.
