The leases will be for up to 600MW in the Offshore Wind Area, off the southeast coast of County Down, which will be leased to a single development company; and the Rathlin Island and Torr Head Strategic Area, which will be open to tidal-stream developers with projects in a range of sizes up to 100MW.
The launch of the two zones follows consultation carried out by The Crown Estate with industry earlier this year.
The Crown Estate says tenders will be assessed on bidders’ ability to deliver operational projects by 2020, with development rights to be awarded in the second half of 2012.
