The German group will deliver 108 3.6MW machines to the project in the Irish Sea, say co-developers Iberdrola Renovables of Spain and Denmark’s Dong Energy.

The deal with Siemens is the Spanish group’s biggest wind turbine order to date.

It covers transport to the Port of Belfast and turbine installation and start-up, as well as a five-year warranty and maintenance agreement.

Iberdrola and Dong confirmed they would go ahead with the project two weeks ago.
