GDF buys Brazilian wind developer
Tractebel Energia – the Brazilian subsidiary of French power giant GDF Suez – has agreed to buy wind developer CLWP Brasil.
Tractebel Energia will pay R$22.6m ($11.1m) for CLWP’s seven project companies, which are developing a 206MW wind portfolio in the municipalities of Umburanas and Sento Sé, 420km from the city of Salvador in the state of Bahia.
The deal is subject to certain contractual conditions and will be carried out via a Tractebel Energia subsidiary.
Tractebel Energia will also acquire further projects totalling 150MW being developed by CLWP in the same region. That deal, worth a further R$16.5m, is subject to approval of environmental licences, which the company says is “nearing completion”.
The French-owned company says: “This operation is in line with the strategy of both Tractebel Energia and the GDF Suez Group in expanding its generating complex from complementary resources, ramping up the company’s sustainable growth in Brazil through renewable energy projects.”
