Hayes held the post during President Barack Obama’s administration and was a key lieutenant to former Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, who left DOI last month.  He will be a senior fellow at the Hewlett Foundation, one of the nation’s largest whose goals include limiting the risk of climate change, and plans to teach at Stanford Law School.

Under Salazar and Hayes, DOI has leased public lands that will support 10GW of privately-owned renewable energy capacity including some of the global solar industry’s largest projects.
