Electrawinds has been working on development of theMpeketoni wind farm since 2011, and says a co-operation deal with IFC InfraVentureswill give a boost to the €180m ($233m) project.

The partners plan to install between 36 and 45 turbines,depending on model used, on an 800-hectare site 20km from the port of Lamuin southeast Kenya.

Electrawinds and IFC InfraVentures have set up a joint developmentteam, which hopes to sign a power purchase agreement and begin work on the projectnext year.

Electrawinds says the involvement of IFC InfraVentures willhelp secure finance.
