The four export cables – made by Germany-based NKT Cables – will flow electricity from two substations 12km off the coast to the beach at Pensarn.

The power will then be delivered via underground lines to a new onshore substation at St. Asaph. RWE awarded the export-cable installation work to Global Marine Systems in early 2012.

However, last September Global Marine’s energy division was acquired by Italy’s Prysmian, which assumed responsibility for the Gwynt y Mor.
