The number is much higher than the industry was expecting, taking into account new grid-connection restrictions for projects taking part in the tender.

When EPE announced a few months ago that only projects with grid-connection availability could participate in the procurement round, the Brazilian Wind Energy Association, Abeeólica, predicted that no more than 3GW of projects would be eligible.

Maurício Tolmasquim, the head of EPE, told Recharge that a study carried out by his organisation and the National Grid Operator (ONS) has shown a 7GW available capacity for new wind farms in the actual grid.
