Acciona to build Brazil factory

Spanish wind power giant Acciona has confirmed plans to build a nacelle assembly plant in Brazil, and comply with new local-content regulations set by national development bank BNDES.

Acciona says the plant “is intended to reinforce the company’s commitment to the wind power market in Brazil, one with the greatest potential on a global level".

Acciona will build the plant in the state of Bahia. It will have the capacity to produce 100 of the company’s AW3000 3MW turbines per year, and will create 60 direct and 4000 indirect jobs.

It will be operational in the last quarter of 2014. Acciona inaugurated a wind turbine hub plant at Simões Filho, also in Bahia, in March.

The company is already supplying 3MW turbines for a 120MW project developed by CPFL in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, and has contracts to supply 210MW for two wind power projects being developed by Voltalia in Rio Grande do Norte.
