In a report runningthe rule over the Scottish government's renewables policies, Audit Scotlandsaid the state of the economy and uncertainties around UK energy policy hadhampered private investment.

The report – which alsodescribed Scotland’s forecasts of future jobs creation from renewables as “optimistic”– said this has led to the significant public funds available being spent moreslowly than planned.

Although the reportis generally supportive of the “clear strategy” and “steady progress” ofrenewables policy, Audit Scotland said: “The Scottish Government needs toestimate how much public sector funding will be needed after 2014/15 to attractprivate sector investment and meet its goals for renewable energy.
