Either alliance would adopt out a more progressive policy regarding renewable energy than Merkel’s outgoing coalition with the Free Democrats (FDP), who didn’t garner enough votes yesterday to enter Germany’s lower house, the Bundestag.

In its election programme, the CDU/CSU promised a continuation of Germany’s Energiewende – its move away from nuclear towards renewable energy.

Merkel before the elections said that the country’s renewable energy act (EEG) needs to be reformed fast.
