Viking submitted its original application for a 150-turbine wind farm in May 2009 after six years of front-end development work, but the project immediately became a lightning rod for controversy, with more than 10% of Shetland’s 22,000 people filing objections.
The project, which would be one of the largest community-owned wind farms in Europe, is being jointly developed by Scottish and Southern Energy.
