The framework deal represents another big step forward for Gamesa in India and a shot across the bows of rival turbine producer Suzlon in its home market.

Suzlon is currently delivering the first 1GW of turbines for Caparo’s 3GW existing Indian wind farm development plan. The new agreement with Gamesa signals a ramp-up of Caparo's development ambitions to 5GW.

Gamesa will provide Caparo with G58 850kw and G97 2MW turbines – the latter making its debut in India – between 2012 and 2016, starting with deliveries of 150MW next year.
