Iberdrola links with Areva to join French offshore wind race

Iberdrola and French group Areva will bid for two of the five zones up for grabs – those at Saint-Brieuc and Saint-Nazaire.

The two areas would be developed up to a capacity of between 1GW and 1.5GW between them, with Areva the exclusive turbine supplier if the bids are successful.

Iberdrola already has major offshore wind interests in the UK, Germany and elsewhere, and has set up an offshore business headquarters in Scotland to drive its strategy in the sector.

Iberdrola says the French zones in question are “two of the areas offering the best conditions in the world for this type of project".
