The consortium won the tender, run by Costa Rican utility ICE, with a bid of $0.122/kWh.

Its $125m Chiripa wind farm will use 1.5MW Acciona turbines and will be built in the country’s Guanacaste province.

The province is also the location of the 49.5MW GDF Suez Guanacaste wind farm, which has been in operation since 2010.

The Acciona/Ecoenergia consortium beat competing projects bids from Energia y Recursos Renovables (48MW) and Mesoamerica (50MW) to secure the deal, which is due to be signed with ICE later this week.
