The delays to the connection points, known as ICGs, in Rio Grande do Norte and Bahia states for four wind farms that are on schedule to become operational on 1 July could cost consumers R$500m ($239m).

Chesf, a subsidiary of the state utility holding group Eletrobras, which is responsible for building ICGs, says connections will not be ready before 2014.

The state utility blames the environmental licensing process combined with the time lag between the wind-energy contract awards in December 2009 and the ICG tender — which was held in September 2010 — for the slow progress.

But
