Siemens dominates offshore wind additions in early 2012

Siemens dominated the offshore wind turbine market during the first half of 2012, installing 108 machines – or 82% of the 132 that were grid-connected across Europe, according to the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA).

REpower installed 20 turbines, or 15% of the total, while troubled manufacturer/developer BARD installed 4 units.

Siemens was responsible for 74% of the total capacity added, against REpower’s 22% and BARD’s 4%.

During the six-month period, Europe installed and connected to the grid 532MW, up 50% on the same period in 2011.

The new capacity came at Belgium’s Thornton Bank 2; Greater Gabbard, Walney 2, Ormonde, London Array, Sheringham Shoal – all in the UK – ; Avedore in Denmark; and BARD Offshore 1 in Germany.
