State Grid told reporters in Beijing this week that on-grid wind power capacity under its distribution had reached 50.26GW, representing an annual growth rate of 87% for the last six years.

However, it blamed regional concentration of wind resources and technical obstacles for inefficient use of wind power, according to a report of the press conference on State Grid’s website.

Shu Yinbiao, deputy manager at State Grid, said connections between regional networks and a national power grid were weak, and the lack of a unified national market stymied growth of the sector.
