Ireland-based MRP today announced a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the UK’s National Grid, Portuguese transmission system operator Redes Energeticas Nacionais (REN) and State Grid to develop Energy Bridge – a renewables-dedicated interconnector that will link Ireland to Great Britain.
The first 1.2GW of capacity is due in place by 2017.
Since the project was first unveiled in June, MRP has openly cited China as one likely source of investment.
