In contrast to Brazil’s federally-regulated tenders, which are offering prices that are far too low, the unregulated sector is likely to become more lucrative, says Mauricio Bähr, Brazil country manager for GDF Suez.

Wind power rates awarded at the most recent tender in December 2011 came in around R$106/MWh ($52.1/MWh). Bähr claims a more reasonable figure would be closer to R$135/MWh.

“We
