The memorandum of understanding (MoU) paves the way for the company's "pan-European" plans involving its existing wind turbine factory in Bremerhaven, Germany, and a planned facility in Le Havre, France.
The MoU was signed by Areva chief executive Luc Oursel and Scottish Enterprise chief executive Lena Wilson, with Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond looking on.
The Scottish factory, which would occupy 30 hectares of land at a yet-to-be finalised location, would produce nacelles, drive-trains, and blades for Areva's flagship 5MW M5000-135 wind turbine, with towers, transition pieces and foundations supplied by an on-site or neighbouring supply chain partner in an industrial "cluster" set-up.
