The 500MW East-West Interconnector – developed by Irish transmission system operator Eirgrid – links Deeside in North Wales with Ireland’s County Meath.
The 260km-long connection is likely to be the shape of things to come. Ireland is the base for several ambitious projects to send renewable electricity – and especially wind output – across the sea to the UK, which needs clean power to meet environmental targets.
