Vattenfall’s £500m ($811m) Ormonde offshore wind farm is just the type of project the UK will need to develop many times over to reach highly ambitious wind-power targets, which require an annual capacity growth rate of 13% until 2020.

Speaking at the opening of the 150MW project in the Irish Sea, 10km off Barrow-in-Furness, northwest England, Vattenfall chief executive Øystein Løseth said Ormonde is “one of the most innovative operational offshore wind farms in the world.
