“The entire industry is stopped” as a result of the actions of BNDES, the national development bank, says Arthur Lavieri, chief executive of Suzlon Brazil.

Elbia Melo, president of the Brazilian wind-power association, ABEEólica, tells Recharge the action could “destroy the wind industry”.

Projects for which developers are seeking financing from the bank have been paralysed since the beginning of June.

Turbine suppliers, which are required by the bank to have a minimum 60% national equipment content level, have been asked to supply proof that they are in compliance.
