Geoff Sharples, a veteran of Clipper Windpower and Google, founded the company in 2009 to fill what he and his collaborators see as gaps in offshore wind technology development.

Some of these arise from the approach of current turbine makers, which have tended to “innovate incrementally”, moving onshore machines offshore, despite inherent limitations, and placing them on top of large, stable platforms to make the turbine “think it’s still on land”, he says.
