SHI has already applied for the necessary consents to test a geared 7MW prototype at Energy Park Fife, says Lena Wilson, chief executive of development agency Scottish Enterprise.

“They’re going to be testing it there, and hopefully after that they’ll move into full-scale manufacturing,” Wilson tells Recharge.

As part of its £100m ($157.8m) push into offshore wind, SHI has inked a “multi-million pound” deal with David Brown Gear Systems, a subsidiary of Clyde Blowers, to supply gearboxes.

Late
