Some 470MW of new offshore wind capacity was brought on line last year, comprising 127 turbines in four countries, with the UK and China representing the two largest markets, according to BTM. That 470MW is equivalent to 1.13% of the total wind capacity added globally in 2011.

By 2016, however, the global offshore market will expand to 5.6GW annually, with a quarter of the capacity going up in Asia.
