Virginia has a “realistic and immediate” opportunity to establish itself as a hub for East Coast offshore wind by targeting development of 2GW off its coast by 2028, according to a new study of the state’s prospects in the sector.

The 2GW of capacity and associated supply chain investments would underpin Virginia’s “unique infrastructure and geographical advantages” within the emerging US offshore wind industry, said consultancy BVG Associates in its report, Vision for Virginia Offshore Wind.
