New Jersey fired the starting gun on bids to procure 1.1GW of offshore wind, in the largest single procurement round yet seen by a US state, while Governor Phil Murphy called for another two huge rounds by 2022.

The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) on Monday voted unanimously to open an application window for developers who control zones in nearby federal waters – a list that includes Deepwater Wind, Orsted and US Wind off New Jersey itself, and Equinor farther to the north with its zone off New York.
