UK technology development body the Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult has been given government consent to continue running its 7MW Levenmouth demonstrator turbine, located in the shallows off Fife, Scotland, until 2029.

The so-called Section 36 extension will mean the turbine – originally built by OEM Samsung before the Korean group withdrew from the regional market in 2013 – will continue to serve industry and academia as a R&D unit for wide range of new technology trials, as well as a test unit for operations and maintenance intelligence and training.
