With its recent announcements on plans for contracts for difference (CfD) auctions, the UK government has finally brought some clarity to the outlook for offshore wind in the 2020s.

The key parameters from energy minister Claire Perry’s speech were: auctions roughly every two years; 2-4GW per auction, based on her reference to 1-2GW per year; remote island onshore wind able to compete alongside offshore projects; and a plan to keep going until the existing £557m ($726m) support pot runs out.
