Senegal is set join the global wind power club with its first utility-scale project after developer Lekela announced financial close on the 159MW Taiba N’Diaye project,

The wind farm – which will use 46, 3.45MW Vestas turbines – will enter construction soon, with operation scheduled in less than two years, said Lekela.

The wind farm will at a stroke grow Senegal’s generation by 15%, adding 450GWh annually to the African nation’s power mix, said a statement.
