American Electric Power announced Friday that it has canceled its involvement in the $4.5bn Wind Catcher development, following the Public Utility Commission of Texas’ decision a day earlier to reject the 2GW project.

The Southwestern Electric Power Co., an AEP-owned regulated utility, had asked Texas regulators to allow it to buy a 70% stake in Wind Catcher, but failed to convince them that the project was in consumers’ interest.
