Deepwater Wind’s 90MW South Fork offshore wind project took a step forward, with the Town Board in East Hampton, on New York’s Long Island, voting to grant easements for the onshore cabling route in exchange for a sizeable community benefits package.

Deepwater still needs an approval from the separate East Hampton Town Trustees, but sign-off from the town board sets a positive tone for what is set to be New York’s first offshore wind project, and among the first industrial-scale offshore projects in the country.
