Floating wind designer X1 Wind has inked a deal with European technology promotion agency InnoEnergy to further develop its innovative tension leg platform (TLP) concept, clearing the way for construction and validation of a “scaled-up” prototype.
The steel ‘weathervaning’ design, which earlier this year completed 1:64 model tests in the CIEMLab wave tank at the Catalunya Polytechnic University, will now undergo design optimisation before being trialed at ECN’s Hydrodynamic and Ocean Engineering Tank in the Netherlands, via the European Union’s MaRINET2 programme.
