Power technology giant ABB has landed orders worth over $150m from developer Orsted for the 1.4GW Hornsea 2 offshore wind mega-project off the UK, kicking off a global five-year electrical and automation equipment frame agreement between the two companies.

Under the deal, ABB will supply Static Var Compensation Light technology with advanced ABB Ability MACH control systems, high voltage gas-insulated switchgear, transformers, reactors and harmonic filters, as well as handling engineering, supply, project management and commissioning of the digital control and protection systems for the wind farm’s onshore substation and two offshore substations.
