Spanish renewables giant Iberdrola has christened Andalucia 2 – the largest AC offshore substation ever fabricated – which will next month set sail from Navantia’s Puerto Real shipyard in Cadiz for the 714MW East Anglia 1 (EA1) wind farm off eastern England.

“EA1 is a massive offshore project, one of the biggest wind farms the world will have seen. This kind of project represents the future of energy generation – power at scale, without carbon emissions and built at increasingly competitive prices,” said Iberdrola chairman Ignacio Galán at an event to mark the handover of the substation.
