Siemens Gamesa and Danish developer Orsted have signed a contract for a firm order for 165 SG 8.0-167 turbines for the 1.39GW Hornsea 2 project some 89km off the English east coast.
The German-Spanish OEM previously was preferred supplier for the project.
Turbine installation is expected to start in 2021, with commissioning seen in early 2022.
The record-breaking project with a combined rating of 1,386MW is not only the largest wind project in Siemens Gamesa's history, but also the largest single order in the history of offshore wind energy, the manufacturer says.
