The Nordex Group has won a 123MW wind turbine order from Brazilian utility Furnas for the Fortim project in the northeastern state of Ceará.

The German-Spanish OEM is scheduled to deliver 41 of its AW125/3000 turbines, with installation slated to start at the beginning of next year.

Furnas is a unit of Brazilian federal power holding company Centrais Elétricas Brasileiras, or Eletrobras.

Brazil’s wind power market is slowly reviving following a severe economic recession in 2014-2016.

At an April federal government tender for projects to be commissioned in 2022, 114MW of wind capacity was contracted at a record low price of R$67.6/MWh ($17.86), and the country’s energy planning authority EPE recently registered a total of 27.1GW of wind projects for a tender scheduled for 31 August for projects to come online in 2024.

The Nordex contract includes an at least five-year service agreement, and has a large portion of local content as the OEM will produce the turbines and towers for the project at Brazilian plants.

Ceará is characterised by strong winds with low turbulence, and the wind farm will have a capacity factor of 40%, Nordex says.
