Scotland’s pioneering Hunterston offshore wind turbine test centre is being decommissioned, after six years of operation.

The three-berth facility, set in pseudo-offshore location in coastal North Ayrshire, has been home to an early-model 6MW Siemens machine and a 7MW Mitsubishi Sea Angel – originally designed for mass installation in the North Sea before the Japanese industrialist agreed a joint venture with Danish OEM Vestas to form MHI Vestas, and the model was shelved.
