The second of floating wind pioneer Ideol’s prototypes has completed construction at the Sakai dockyard in Osaka and is being readied for tow-out and mooring off Japan.

The unit, a steel version of the French outfit’s ‘damping pool’ semisubmersible design, will be topped out with a 3.5MW two-bladed Aerodyn turbine as part of a project being developed by a consortium including Hitachi-Zozen, Marubeni and the University of Tokyo, under the aegis of the government-run New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organisation (Nedo).
