Tanzania moved a step closer to joining the global wind power club after global developer Windlab received environmental approvals for a project of up to 300MW in the East African nation.

The Tanzanian government issued an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) Certificate for the Miombo Hewani wind farm and transmission project, near Makambako in the country’s south.

The ESIA is the first to be issued in Tanzania for a wind project, Windlab said in a statement.
