Allowing 5GW of onshore wind to compete in contract for difference (CfD) auctions between next year and 2025 would spur a net payback to consumers of more than £1.6bn ($2.14bn) over the 15-year period of the contracts, according to analysis from BVG Associates (BVGA).

The study, entitled The Power of Onshore Wind, considers the effects of holding five CfD auctions between 2019 and 2025, with a 1GW capacity ceiling in place for each auction.
